Since its inception in 2011, DISA Foundation Its objective is the well-being of the little ones, especially that of those minors who, due to different circumstances, are part of vulnerable groups. Last July, the entity opened its fourth call for its Extraordinary line of aid to entities that care for minors at risk of social exclusion.
In this edition, 8 projects have been selected and will be developed in different parts of the Canary Islands during 2023, estimating that they will reach 1,270 people with a total budget of 93,000 euros. Since its inception, this line has recognized 26 projects and programs based on education, psychology and pedagogy of minors and their families, reaching 6,231 people and for which the DISA Foundation has allocated a total of 367,012 euros.
This line of specific aid was created after the health crisis that occurred in 2020 in order to help solve the educational and psychological deficiencies of the boys and girls of the Canary Islands, giving them the opportunity to obtain full performance both educationally and emotionally and social. This fourth call is the last one, leaving, from now on, this type of collaboration included in the annual line of Aid for Projects and Social Initiatives from the DISA Foundationwith a specific line dedicated to children.
The eight 2023 beneficiary projects will be carried out in La Gomera, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Palma and Lanzarote, prioritizing the mental and emotional health of minors and their families:
Gara Women’s Association (La Gomera): With its project “Learning with Gara. Also to be equal” the association provides support to vulnerable families on the island, in order to alleviate situations of risk, exclusion and poverty. In addition, it is committed to the personal empowerment of children and youth, promoting the family as the center of attention through dynamic and interactive activities aimed at raising awareness and achieving equality from the earliest ages.
ACAPASIL – Canarian Association of Assistance Psychology Laurissilva (Tenerife): “UNSTOPPABLE Generation” is a program designed to address the health and mental well-being of young people, paying direct attention to the needs and problems that affect them. It seeks to improve mental and emotional health by helping them develop the tools and social and emotional skills necessary to break the situation of vulnerability by offering them a safe space.
Canary Socio-Health Association We Accompany You (Gran Canaria): Through the “Strengthening roots” project, the entity will address the psychosocial risks that affect children and adolescents belonging to families in a situation of social vulnerability and/or social exclusion, with special emphasis on those who face problems of low performance or school failure. . The main objective is to provide personalized comprehensive support that promotes their emotional, social and academic development, contributing to an improvement in their quality of life and preventing risk situations.
Social Association Sharing Goals (La Palma): “Educa La Palma” is an initiative that provides a safe space where minors in a situation of social exclusion and/or vulnerability can take care of their mental health and cover their emotional needs through comprehensive and personal support services, dining room service free, recreational recreational activities and training programs that promote the development of minors.
Sociocultural Association Life is Zuania (Lanzarote): The “Argana Siente de Colores” project is a continuity project that is committed to socio-educational intervention for the child and adolescent population at risk of social exclusion in the most vulnerable and populated neighborhood of Lanzarote (Argana Alta), focusing its activities on emotional management , in the reduction of school dropouts and in social action.
Canarian Association for Family, Educational and Psychosocial Intervention and Mediation + Family (Tenerife): “+ Childhood: service of daytime activities for children’s leisure and well-being” launches different actions aimed at minors in situations of vulnerability, pre-risk or risk between the ages of 4 and 12 and their families, for an improvement of their emotional, physical, academic and social well-being, favoring the possibilities of family reconciliation from a preventive and interventional point of view. In addition, it will have specialized training for families, with the aim of improving the well-being of minors by improving the parental skills of their parents and caregivers.
Canary Islands Family Care Center Foundation (Tenerife): With “ARE Volunteering: Harmony, Respect and Balance” this entity aims to ensure that minors from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Orotava can achieve an optimal quality of life in harmony and balance, through academic improvement, emotional education and in values. It also offers reinforcement workshops for families to complement this support at home.
AFAMCA – Association of the Canary Islands Family (Tenerife): The “EDUCA MENTES” project seeks to ensure that boys and girls acquire essential skills and abilities for their future through educational resources and programs that help them improve their academic performance, as well as the achievement of long and short-term academic objectives , increasing their school motivation and obtaining tools to develop skills for the future based on mental health.
