SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The National Police have arrested a resident of Los Realejos linked to the investigation into the episodes of fires and attempts that have occurred in the municipality in recent years, as reported by the mayor, Adolfo González, on social networks.
The mayor has shown his satisfaction and tranquility for this arrest and has highlighted the work that has been done for a long time by the Environment Prosecutor’s Office, Tenerife Cabildo, Los Realejos City Council, National Police, Civil Guard and Local Police.
It has also valued, especially, the collaboration provided by those neighbors who have provided information “in a very discreet and prudent way” and which has also helped this alleged arsonist to be arrested today.
Adolfo González stressed that this person has been arrested because there is “sufficient evidence” that he may be the one behind the fire attempts that have occurred not only in the municipality, but also in other places on the island and for a long time.
The mayor reiterated that today is a day “for hope and tranquility”; However, he considers that one should not lower one’s guard, hence the surveillance and observation operation remains in force, as well as the permanent Brifor unit in the Icod el Alto area. In addition, he informed that the processing of the file for the installation of surveillance cameras will continue.
Finally, he pointed out that the investigation is still open and that the detainee will soon be brought before the courts to give a statement, and it will be then that the temporary or definitive measures that the judge considers will be determined.
