VALVERDE (THE IRON), 15 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The socialist general secretary and candidate for re-election as president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, pointed out this Monday in El Hierro that the archipelago needs a “brave” government that is clearly committed to the energy transition and environmental sustainability, as as its Executive has done in the last four years.
“Here there are no intricacies and there can be no doubts: the only future option is to eliminate oil and bet on wind energy on land and at sea, photovoltaic or geothermal energy with projects like Gorona del Viento, for which it is It is necessary to have brave governments, as I believe we have done in these four years in the Canary Islands,” he said.
In the Legislature that ends, for example, “from 400 homes that had subsidized self-consumption photovoltaic panels in the Canary Islands we have gone to 10,000,” he indicated in a note sent by the Canarian socialists.
In Torres’ opinion, this commitment must be expanded and also have “more electric vehicles, hydrogen transport or sustainable fuel for international travel”, that is, “continue moving towards a clear commitment to green transformation”, as is also being done by the La Gomera island. “That is the commitment of the PSOE”, she has underlined.
The insular secretary general and candidate for re-election as president of the El Hierro Council, Alpidio Armas, has indicated that this island is in a position to be 100% renewable if it obtains the necessary financial support to develop the first agrovoltaic plant in the Canary Islands.
Along these lines, he said that El Hierro aspires to continue being a “spearhead” in energy self-sufficiency and has indicated that this initiative could become a reality within a year and a half if both the Government of Spain and the Canary Islands provide the necessary support.
Armas has pointed out that “he has no doubts that it will be like this” if after the elections on May 28 it is the PSOE who continues to govern the island and Ángel Víctor Torres in the Canary Islands.
For her part, the socialist candidate for the Parliament of the Canary Islands for this island, Lucía Fuentes, stated that “El Hierro was already a sustainable island before the word sustainability began to be used” and she is sure that Parliament will fight to that “continue to invest in the development of renewable energies and continue to be the model of sustainability”.
