The ceremony takes place in different ways in terms of communication and the message offered to the public present in the Chamber Room. From the temperance and conciseness of the nephew of Antonio Bello Pérez – Antonio Bello gonzalez– when he receives the distinction to the emotion of Antonio Orozco, provincial president of the AECC, when remembering the 600 volunteers who work in the group together with 24 professionals with the decisive support of its 12,000 members. After them, Francisco Perera Molinero, president of the Royal Academy of Medicine, glossed over the rich history of the institution.
The general secretary of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Domingo Hernández Hernández, is in charge of facing the most institutional task, a role that he usually repeats regularly every month in the island plenary sessions. In this sense, it is up to you to read, by way of introduction, the different minutes of the institutional agreements – unanimously by the political groups in all cases – at the request of the Special Commission in charge of investigating the file of the distinctions.

The ceremony is presided over by Pedro Martín who is accompanied by various councilors as well as members of the aforementioned Commission, representatives of the Town Halls of various municipalities on the Island, in addition to those who attend on behalf of the honorees, friends, family and the public.
Pedro Martín highlights “the social and educational work of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, a benchmark entity in supporting people diagnosed with oncological pathologies and which has carried out uninterrupted activity on the Island of Tenerife for more than thirty years”.
Regarding the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Canary Islands, the president recalls the importance of an institution “that watches over research but also collaborates in the development of those aspects that affect the world of medicine; issues that, after all, are relevant to society in general”.
The Cabildo de Tenerife also grants the researcher Antonio Bello Pérez the consideration of Favorite Son of the Island. Martín values: “A scientist of recognized world prestige and one of the visible heads in the concept of agroecology.”
The president emphasizes his “visionary” character, which revolutionized the way of understanding agriculture from a more sustainable point of view towards the environment. Without forgetting his facet as a teacher, endorsed by his presence at the universities of Navarra and the Complutense University of Madrid. The president also underlines “his task as director of doctoral theses for many researchers both from the islands and abroad.”
Antonio Bello González, his nephew, collected the title on behalf of the researcher’s family. He thanked the granting of the distinction and highlighted aspects of the social and academic memory of Antonio Bello Pérez.
On behalf of the Provincial Board of Santa Cruz de Tenerife of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, its resident, Andrés Orozco, collected the medal. In his speech, he valued the importance of research in this field and volunteering in the organization.
He couldn’t help but get emotional when referring to “those who give everything for others” without asking for anything in return. He mentioned some key people in the collective. Among them Mary Cejudo, “the image of the volunteers for me.”
On behalf of the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Canary Islands, its president, Francisco Perera Molinero, took the floor. He made reference to the almost 200-year history of an entity attached to the scientific and social development of Tenerife.
