SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 14 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Plan for the Elderly of Tenerife, the first island initiative for the planning and management of activities for the elderly, will be planned through a participatory process that will consist of 130 workshops to be held in the coming months and that will take place in all the municipalities of the Island.
This programme, which is managed by the Cabildo’s Social Action, Citizen Participation and Diversity area, pursues the objective of providing the elderly in Tenerife with a set of island strategies adapted to the different realities that converge in the elderly and that the people who make it up feel identified for having actively participated in its preparation, with the freedom and autonomy that corresponds to them.
The Plan is part of the line of work developed by the Cabildo through the Conecta Mayores program, created to promote social inclusion and active aging of the elderly population. Through it, older people and associations that work with this group are given a voice, to promote actions and activities that respond to the proposals and demands they put forward, adjusted to their realities, problems and diversity of needs.
With this objective, through the Plan for the Elderly, quality in aging will be addressed from different prisms such as mobility, accessibility, equality, participation, culture, education, tourism, sport, the environment, foreign action; giving, therefore, a transversal and integral character to the Plan in a balanced way.
The phases that comprise this program can be summarized in three major milestones: the planning and coordination of the workshops; their execution, which will last approximately six months; and the definitive elaboration of the Plan for its future implementation. This Plan involves addressing a work strategy that sets the lines that guide actions in this matter for the next five years.
In addition to older people in their leading role and autonomy, social, economic and political agents who know and work with the group to contribute projects and ideas that can be included in the Plan will participate in these workshops.
For this reason, the foundations of this plan deal mainly with the defense of the rights of the elderly and autonomy in decision-making; in collaboration between administrations and the leading role of town halls, given their closeness to this group; in the transversality of matters that concern the aging of the population and territorial balance.
All the implementation phases of the Plan will be guided by a communication and participation campaign in which all the information will be reported and updated on a daily basis through a specialized website, in addition to the traditional communication channels. This Plan does not forget the digital divide, therefore, work will be carried out along parallel lines, adapting communication at all times to the population to which it is directed.
