Thousands of travelers saturate the Port of Los Cristianos again

The Port of Los Cristianos completed today the second phase of the operation that started from Easter. During the last two days, 19,000 canaries and tourists and 4,840 vehicles embarked to La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro, according to figures from the Port Authority. While the dock parking lot put up the full sign, the entrance to the port area was saturated to access the 13 ship exits with which the Fred shipping companies operate in the place. Olsen and Guns. A common pattern that is aggravated in this holiday period, in which many spend an hour on the TF-1 to the port.

The return is the next challenge. This Saturday and Sunday, with nine and 15 planned stopovers, respectively, it is estimated that 26,000 passengers and almost 5,000 vehicles will travel by sea from the Green Islands to the port of Arona. The Port Authority anticipates that, in order to avoid retentions at the exit of the Port of Los Cristianos on those days, an alternative incorporation to the TF-1 motorway is enabled from the Avenida Chayofita roundabout, to the left, to circulate at through Llanos de Troya.

This problem persists while waiting for the administrations to decide on the alternative to the Port of Los Cristianos for inter-island maritime traffic. The construction of the Port of Fonsalía, in Guía de Isora –with its environmental impact study expired– has been parked, The options are the use of the Port of Granadilla, the partial diversion of maritime traffic to the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the expansion of the Port of Los Cristianos. The Government of the Canary Islands commissioned four reports: the cost, prior environmental impact assessment, evaluation of alternatives to improve mobility and the investment needed to expand the port and resolve the chaos in internal traffic in Los Cristianos.

What is urgent is to apply a solution to the traffic generated by port activity inside Los Cristianos. Without consensus, the proposal of the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, is gaining supporters: bury Avenida Chayofita until it connects with the Autopista del Sur.

lope afonso

Yesterday, Lope Afonso, candidate of the Popular Party for the Presidency of the Cabildo, who visited the place, called for “urgent action by the administrations to avoid the collapse suffered by the port and the entire Los Cristianos road system, directly caused by the activity of passenger traffic between islands.

One more voice that adds to the political, business and, especially, social demands of the town. “The legislature closes without a solution and we are facing one of the most serious problems on the Island. What we experienced today (yesterday) is another example.”

highways

Except at specific times in the morning, on the insular road network, only the TF-1 came close to suffering delays. The holiday destination in the south of the Island and the trips to the Islas Verdes through the Port of Los Cristianos did not saturate the highway. In the case of the North, the TF-5 functioned normally and only on the TF-2 (link between highways through Las Chumberas) there was intense traffic, with momentary stops, in the kilometer and a half closest to the incorporation into the TF-1.

airports

By air, both from the Tenerife Sur Airport and from the Ciudad de La Laguna-Tenerife Norte Airport operated normally. AENA did not report yesterday that there were changes regarding the forecast of the 199 operations contemplated for the case of Los Rodeos. The same should be noted regarding the Reina Sofía, which yesterday added 208 operations (34 on domestic flights and 174 on an international basis). For today, 153 are planned in the North and 227 in the South.
