In the first call for European Next Generation funds for the rehabilitation of homes with energy efficiency criteria, Santa Cruz obtained 10.5 million for 381 houses in the Añaza neighborhood. In the second call for this program, called Residential Environments for Programmed Rehabilitation, it has obtained another 14.3 million that will reach 426 homes, this time distributed between Añaza (140), Los Gladiolos (182) and Los Verodes (104). This was announced by the Councilor for Housing, Juan José Martínez, who explained that the Government of the Canary Islands already has the money, and the investment of those 14.3 million has been agreed with Santa Cruz.
In this way, the State will contribute 9.3 million, the City Council will put 1.5, and the Cabildo another 1.1 million. As is already the case in common rehabilitation programs, homeowners must contribute a percentage of the total, in this case 4.75%, which adds up to 599,694 euros, at a rate of 1,407 euros per home.
Although the intervention that is going to be carried out in these homes is similar to that of any ARRU (Aid for Urban Regeneration and Renewal), in which the general condition of the properties is improved, in this case efficiency is added energetic. Specifically, the works included in the project for these homes, which must now be drawn up, in consensus with the owners, have to do with improvements in water supply and sanitation networks, telecommunications, roofs and facades, common areas, and the implementation of energy efficiency systems, such as insulation and photovoltaic electricity production. “For example, they will be able to have centralized hot water thanks to the placement of solar panels on all the roofs of the buildings, efficiency issues can be touched up, for example, in elevators, or help with their placement if the neighbors so decide, it will also be possible to it will place led lighting, all to make them energy efficient”, explained the also councilor for the Treasury.
European project
According to the project presented, in Los Gladiolos, the benefited blocks are 5, with 48 homes; 10, with 32; 15, with 40; 20, with 14; 27, with 32, and 30, with 16 homes. In Los Verodes, blocks 3 (56 homes) will be rehabilitated; 7(16); 8 (16), and 11 (16). While in Añaza the I21A and I21B are incorporated, with 70 homes each.
In this way, with these 426 homes, there are already 807 that in the capital will be improved thanks to the funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which is financed with European Next Generation funds.
Thus, it is specified that the reinforcement of public and private investment is carried out to reorient the production model, promoting the green transition, decarbonization, energy efficiency, the deployment of renewable energies, the electrification of the economy, the development of storage of energy, the circular economy, solutions based on nature and the improvement of the resilience of all economic sectors, with a component focused on promoting rehabilitation actions.
