The Town Hall of The Acentejo Massacre continues with the development of projects that allow the use of energy from the sun through photovoltaic installations, economic savings and the reduction of polluting emissions. After intervening in schools, institutes, nurseries, cemetery and numerous municipal and sports facilities, the Matanzas Town Hall takes a new step and will convert the new roof of the sports and cultural space of El Pirul in a photovoltaic field, capable of supplying the facilities and generating energy for the environment.
The local government, led by Ignacio Rodriguez (PSOE) since 1983, wants to turn this model of roofing and energy use into an example to imitate in other nuclei such as Guide, San Antonio or Fuente del Lomo.
A few days ago, the residents of the neighborhood of El Pirul They celebrated the completion of the roofing work on their sports center, located next to the neighborhood’s socio-cultural center and facilities such as the children’s playground and the family recreation area. Now, that large roof aspires to become a large space for capturing solar energy and generating electricity.
The Consistory underlines “the special care taken when undertaking the action, preserving the landscape potential that distinguishes it from other sports spaces in the municipality.” This public endowmentemerges in a landscape of chestnut trees and a few meters from the beginning of the pine forest areaTherefore, the City Council insisted on making the need and advantages of covering the field compatible with being able to continue enjoying the landscape from it, avoiding creating a closed compartment isolated from the environment.
The creation of a completely closed and isolated space from the environment has been avoided.
The adopted solution includes “a sheet system that protects the user on the court from the weather, while allowing perfect ventilation and visibility».
With this first roofing action “the functionality of the existing sports facility is increased, 1,432 square meters, facilitating its use in federated tournaments, training activities or recreational and free use, regardless of the weather conditions of rain or excessive heat. In addition, the works have made it possible to gain other spaces for their complementary use and set the course for other roofs that the City Council already has underway on tennis courts.
