A British family’s luxury holiday in Tenerife became “a nightmare” after thieves broke into his five-star hotel room and stole £8,000 worth of items, about 9,000 euros.
James Dobson40 years old, and his wife Jayne39, had been staying at the 1,400-euro-a-night hotel with their two children for three days when they say the items were stolen, according to assures the British media Daily Mail.
Among the stolen items were two designer handbags, three pairs of designer sunglasses, a Nintendo Switch, Bose Bluetooth headphones, and an electric toothbrush.
He claims the thieves even managed to break into the room’s locked safe and stole 800 euros (about £710) from the wallet while the family “he was relaxing by the pool”.
“When we got back to the room, even though there was no physical evidence of a break-in, we immediately noticed things were missingJames Dobson said.
“They knew exactly what to wear. They left items like airpods and iPads behind because they knew they could be tracked“They also took an Adidas backpack, which I suppose they used to carry the stolen items,” he adds.
“It seems the thieves cut the power by using the fuse box in the room to reset and open the safe. We had a children’s watch with us that would tell time when it ran out of power.and it showed the time we were out of the room”, he qualifies.
Complaint
He immediately reported the incident to the police, and when he returned, he told the hotel staff what had happened. The tourist establishment said it had found no evidence of wrongdoing.
Dobson said that none of them “apologized” or “showed empathy” for what had happened.
“Surely there was someone on the staff besides the hotel manager who could have helped us,” he says.
A spokesman for the hotel in the south of Tenerife, in a statement, says that “The safety of our guests is our top priority, and we take reports of theft very seriously.”.
Furthermore, he adds that “Cooperated fully with local authorities on this matter and referred any further questions to them.”.
