At approximately 9:00 a.m., under the watchful eyes of around one hundred spectators eager to witness the event, the training ship J berthed at the Llanos dock in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Juan Sebastian de Elcano, carrying 76 midshipmen, including Princess Leonor, arrived.
The vessel initially stops in Santa Cruz de Tenerife before continuing to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where it is scheduled to dock on January 21, adhering to the tradition of using Canarian ports as departure points for voyages to America.
Throughout their visit to the islands, the Princess and her fellow midshipmen will engage in numerous training exercises.
On this journey, the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano has two primary missions: one of which includes the all-encompassing training of the midshipmen – encompassing seamanship, military skills, and personal development – as part of their third year in the five-year programme at the Naval Military School.
