The president, Pedro Martín, points out that it is “a great step forward” and anticipates that the work will begin this year
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Governing Council of the Cabildo de Tenerife has approved this Tuesday the file for the contracting of the works of the ‘Tenerife Circuito del Motor’, in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona.
The construction of this automobile infrastructure will have a bidding budget of 56 million euros and an execution period of 40 months.
The insular president, Pedro Martín, pointed out in a note that “it is a great step forward, a tender that will allow companies to present themselves now to carry out these works, with which this year machinery can be seen working.”
Likewise, he said that “it is important that when talking about the Motor Circuit it is no longer just a matter of addressing ideas, possible projects or talking about the future, steps must be taken in this long process, with many administrative procedures, in order to comply with all the regulations”.
Pedro Martín indicated that the tender includes the execution of three projects: the canalization of the three ravines with the defense plan against floods, the earthworks and installations for removable stands and, finally, the speed track.
For his part, the First Vice President and Island Councilor for Highways, Enrique Arriaga, assures that “there are many difficulties that have arisen along the way” and for this reason they are “very happy” because in a few months they will be able to start the works of this infrastructure “so demanded by the thousands of motor enthusiasts on the island”.
Arriaga points out that “the circuit will have an area of about 650,000 square meters that will allow all kinds of competitions to be held with quality and, above all, safety” and recalls that it has the approvals of the International Automobile Federation and the Federation Motorcycle International to host top-level races.
“This space will not be exclusively for large events, our goal is for the motor world to continue to grow in Tenerife. For this, the Circuit will have facilities dedicated to training around motorsport and there will also be plots where related companies can set up with this sector to test components, competition materials, assembly of parts and repair, which will become a new employment niche in the southern part of the island”, affirms the vice-president.
FOUR KILOMETERS OF LAYOUT
Once the works are finished, the Motor Circuit will have a layout of 4,050 meters, with a main straight of about 800 meters long and a series of secondary straights designed to facilitate overtaking, especially in the case of cars, with various ramps that will be a spectacle for the motorcycles.
In addition, it will be characterized by being one of the few circuits in the world to circulate in an anti-clockwise direction.
The layout is developed with a total of 16 curves in plan, of which there will be 11 to the left and 5 to the right.
All of them will have different base radii starting from a minimum of 21 meters to a maximum of 100 meters and transversely, the curves will have a single slope that varies between 1% and 5% depending on the radius and speed of movement.
All this will be complemented by a 72,000 square meter paddock prepared to accommodate all the needs required by any national or international competition, with 15 boxes for cars and 45 for motorcycles.
The infrastructure will also have a grandstand with capacity for more than 5,000 people, a restaurant and a shopping area.
