Tenerife promotes a catalog to recover livestock routes

Canarian Coalition yesterday received the support of the other groups of the Cabildo de Tenerife to two motions related to the maintenance of the traditions of the rural world of the Island. On the one hand, to promote the recovery and cataloging of the cattle routes of Tenerife’s geography. Besides, with the intention of reinvigorating the activity of the Pottery Centers.

Both Antolín Bueno and Efraín Medina, nationalist councilors who respectively defended both proposals, thank the rest of the groups for their support for the initiatives.

Bueno points out that this catalog will allow citizens “to enjoy the historic public roads for better use and planning of the territory”. The agreement in the plenary commission for the Natural Environment, Primary Sector and Municipal Cooperation consists of “drafting and executing a project for the administrative classification of all the cattle tracks in Tenerife, since they are public roads that have various uses and represent a historical legacy of great interest. for today’s society.

Essential element

Antolín Bueno points out that the cattle routes constitute an essential element in the planning of the territory; they favor the diversification of the landscape, especially in urban environments; they foster biodiversity by enabling the genetic exchange of plant and animal species; and, finally, they constitute an extraordinary means for carrying out activities currently in great demand and social acceptance, such as routes on foot (hiking), on horseback (riding) or by bicycle (cycling).

Next Generation Funds

The project for all the livestock routes could be eligible for aid from the Next Generation Funds of the European Union”, points out Bueno to add: “We have the obligation to defend and protect this public heritage that can also contribute resources to the green and sustainable economy” .

Livestock trails are classified according to their dimensions into ravines (maximum width of 75 meters), strings (37.5 meters) and sidewalks (20 meters). These main roads articulate the space and are connected to each other through others of lesser width called branches or castings. Next to these paths are the drinking troughs, resting places and sheepfolds, associated with livestock traffic.

The counselor proposes actions to recover the roads of La Corona, Treviña, Las Molinas or Casas de Méndez, “and the rest of the roads that are closed or cut for free use.”

The motion urges the Government of the Canary Islands to materialize and approve the annex of the transfer, in which the services, personal and material means, and the resources transferred in the matter of cattle roads are specified, so that, from its publication, the receipt and delivery of services, files, goods, personnel and resources, and proceed to the effective exercise of the transferred powers. In the same way, it urges to comply with the motion of the group Yes We Can Canary Islands approved in July 2020.

Day of the Livestock Routes

Next Sunday, at 10:00 a.m., the III Day of Livestock Trails and Public Roads is celebrated with a tour of the lagoon ravine, between El Púlpito mountain and Mesa Mota, The purpose is to disseminate the virtues and problems of these spaces, raise awareness among citizens about their importance and the need for their recovery, defense and conservation given their potential for the enhancement of rural, natural and agricultural heritage.. The organizers call for participation through the email viaspecuariaspublicas@gmail.com.

pottery centers

The insular group of CC-PNC, in a motion defended by counselor Efraín Medina, achieved in the commission of Employment, Socioeconomic Development, Education and Sports the support to promote the Pottery Centers of Tenerife “in order to maintain a traditional activity that runs the risk of disappearing.” Medina summarizes: “Inter-administrative actions are necessary to be able to determine places of extraction of earth, clay or sediment, in an orderly and regulated manner in order to be able to maintain the tradition.”

Dávila bets on training to combat youth unemployment

While her party colleagues in the Cabildo agree on motions, the candidate for the insular presidency for the Canary Coalition, Rosa Dávila, continues her journey around the Island. On this occasion, she travels to the south with “a commitment to specialized training to combat unemployment youth”. Together with the mayor of Granadilla de Abona, José Domingo Regalado, she visits the facilities of the Brok-Air Aviation Academy company. Ella Dávila points out that “there is a serious problem of youth unemployment and job insecurity; Here we are talking about training for a specialized sector such as aeronautics». She stresses that “we want to turn Tenerife into a strategic aircraft repair center, with qualified jobs that our young people can access.” She concludes: “It is an example of diversification of the economy and the Cabildo can grant scholarships for training.” Regalado points out that “for Granadilla it is important to have companies that decide to bet on high-quality training.” She values that Europe will need 600,000 jobs in the aeronautical sector in the coming years and “it is important to train here.” Brok-Air Aviation Academy is the leading aeronautical training center in the Canary Islands. Its main problem is currently in maintenance due to the lack of sufficient qualified technicians. | JDM
