SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 22 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The deputy of the Popular Parliamentary Group, Juan Manuel García Casañas, will ask the Government of the Canary Islands in parliamentary commission to explain if he knew about the plot that extorted businessmen in the livestock sector and if he was aware of the irregular actions that are being investigated in the ‘Mediator case’ “after verifying how once again the president of the Canary Islands Executive, Ángel Víctor Torres, gives the silent answer”.
“It is inadmissible that President Torres hide behind the counselor responsible for the primary sector in the archipelago to avoid giving explanations. This scandal cannot follow the same trajectory as the ‘Masks case’, which the Government denied from the outset, which was led by the general director of the Canary Islands Health Service and who is in the hands of the European Prosecutor’s Office,” denounced the popular deputy in a note.
For this reason, the popular deputy will ask in the next Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries commission, which will be held this Friday, about the “real reasons” that caused the dismissal of the former director general of Livestock, Taishet Fuentes, involved in the alleged plot.
The popular deputy assures that, in the face of this new alleged case of corruption that “splashes” the Torres Executive, the Government of the Canary Islands has to act with “transparency” and “offer explanations” to public opinion to clarify whether last June , when the then general director of Livestock was dismissed, they already knew what was happening and what controls exist in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries “so that events of this type do not occur.”
The PP deputy announced that in addition to this question in commission, he will require the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries to appear in the Parliament of the Canary Islands to offer explanations of these events to all the canaries, and especially to the farmers of the islands , “one of the sectors most affected by the pandemic and in which there is real concern about what is happening.”
Casañas also assured that the Popular Party respects the presumption of innocence but “in the face of such serious and scandalous events that not only affect members of the Socialist Party but also the regional Executive, it is necessary for someone to assume responsibility, face up and shed light on one of the bloodiest chapters of recent years in the Canary Islands”.
