SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has renewed its collaboration with the Fundación Canaria Pequeño Valiente to improve the quality of life of children with cancer through physical activity. This project, called Valientes en forma, will benefit 63 children and 138 relatives.

The Island Councilor for Sports, Concepción Rivero, has highlighted “the important work carried out by this association to make the recovery of these little ones more bearable” and has emphasized that they “should serve as an example to all of us”.

In addition, he added that the Cabildo wants to support this initiative whose purpose is none other than to improve the day-to-day lives of children with cancer through physical exercise and sports activities, also involving their families.

Concepción Rivero has influenced the value of sport as a therapeutic tool due to its ability to help alleviate the side effects of cancer treatments and improve mood”. In addition, she has highlighted that physical exercise “allows the body to prepare itself for the demands of treatment and better cope with the fatigue and muscle weakness associated with various cancer therapies.

Valientes en forma takes place in different spaces such as the University Hospital of the Canary Islands, the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria University Hospital, as well as in camps, outdoor spaces or sports centers, including the Tenerife Santa Cruz Ofra Sports Complex, managed by the Cabildo through Ideco.

Among the scheduled activities are hiking trails, water activities such as paddle surfing, adapted bodyboarding, aquagym, sea baptisms, basketball, climbing, escape room, zumba, activities with horses, yoga workshops, multi-sports and summer camps, among others.

The Pequeño Valiente Canary Foundation, winner of the Canarias Solidarity Award in 2016, cares for 612 people, including sick children and their families. It contributes to the psychological and educational support of children and their families, helps to improve health care for minors and offers accommodation to families who move from other islands for medical reasons.

In addition, the Foundation contributes to promoting the study and research on childhood cancer, promoting extra-hospital activities to facilitate communication and support among those affected, as well as raising awareness of the general population about childhood cancer.
