SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 23 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Popular Party of the Canary Islands has denounced today Monday the existence of 457 people with medical discharge who are occupying hospital beds, when they should be in a social health place, which reflects the “great failure” of the social health infrastructure plan of the Government of the Canary Islands.
This was announced at a press conference by the president of the Popular Party of the Canary Islands and candidate for the Presidency of the regional government, Manuel Domínguez, who has appeared before the media together with the popular spokesman for Health in the regional Chamber, Miguel Ángel Ponce.
In his speech, Manuel Domínguez reported that, according to data from the Canary Islands Executive, in Fuerteventura there are people with a medical discharge who have spent an average of 1,222 days in a hospital bed; in Lanzarote, 1,590 days; in Gran Canaria, 1,142 days, and in Tenerife, 1,225 days. Likewise, he affirmed that there is a specific case that has exceeded eleven years (4,119 days) living in a hospital.
Given the “bad care” that is being provided to patients, Manuel Domínguez has once again announced a “rescue plan” for Canarian health that contemplates carrying out an infrastructure plan and linking health and socio-health care, in a way that they are not separated, “because this leads to the absolute failure of the management that is being considered at this moment”.
Manuel Domínguez accused the president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, of not having told the truth because “it is not true that the Canary Islands have managed well in the last four years”, and lamented that despite having had “the greatest resources In the entire history of the autonomous community, we have had the worst health and social health management”.
For his part, the popular spokesman for Health in the regional Chamber, Miguel Ángel Ponce, wanted to recall that almost a year ago they presented a plan with 64 socio-sanitary measures that have not been taken into account by the Government of the Canary Islands, when the reality It is that in Canarian health “they are all collapses in Primary Care, on waiting lists, in the ER and even in dismissals and resignations.”
Faced with this situation, Miguel Ángel Ponce announced that the Popular Party of the Canary Islands is going to include in its electoral program a “brave” bet that will include the creation in the next legislature of a Ministry of Health and Socio-sanitary Policy, as well as a General Directorate of Sociosanitary Policy coordinated with the island councils so that there is a unified bed map, both for hospital and social health beds so that their management is much more agile.
Miguel Ángel Ponce explained that between 8 and 10% of hospital beds are occupied by people with a medical discharge. Of these, the spokesman added, 14% of these patients have legal problems and the majority are patients who cannot be cared for by their relatives.
For this reason, from the Popular Party they propose the promotion of alternative hospitalization systems, such as home hospitalization, the creation of rehabilitation and physiotherapy units in health centers, telemedicine, the creation of complex chronic patient units or the best coordination between Primary Care and Specialized Care.
Likewise, Miguel Ángel Ponce indicated that the Emergency services are collapsed mainly due to the lack of hospital beds and because the appointment to be received by the Primary Care doctor takes between 9 and 10 days, hence the patient ends up going to the ER. For this reason, the PP considers that coordination between health and socio-sanitary policy is essential and requires a “daring and courageous” change, as the popular ones propose.
