The City Hall of El Rosario is one step closer to zero emissions thanks to the works on the so-called thermal envelope of the town hall. The local institution explains that the works, which will drastically reduce carbon dioxide emissions, are advancing and that the actions are currently taking place on the side of the building located next to La Sardinera street and on part of the front facing the square, in addition on the roof, where we continue with the fretwork and the placement of the beams that will support the photovoltaic panels.

The mayor of El Rosario, scholastic gilpoints out that «the changes are becoming evident, both in the aesthetics of the building and, what is much more important, in the improvement of energy efficiency and thermal insulation, as can already be seen, for example, as soon as you enter the premises of the Municipal Technical Office». And he adds: “The heat from the sun’s rays is retained in the walls and transferred to the interior of the offices, making them more comfortable and less dependent on electrical devices.”

Specifically, the rehabilitation of the thermal envelope of the building will allow the isolation of all interior spaces habitable and its separation from the outside environment, reducing the need for temperature regulation devices. “Until now, no building enclosure had thermal insulation, because the building regulations of the time in which it was built did not require compliance with the coefficient of the building envelope,” the Consistory detailed.

According to the data provided by the City Council coinciding with the award, these actions have an investment of 237,326 euros, which benefits from an 85% subsidy awarded by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE). “This project, together with the installation of photovoltaic panels, will make the City Hall the first municipal facility with zero emissions, generating its own electricity in a clean way and achieving a high level of energy efficiency,” the local institution said. .

For his part, he Councilor for Ecological TransitionFidel Vázquez, details that this work “is one of the most important being carried out in Canary Islands in terms of sustainable construction. And he stated: “So much so that this action was set as an example of how to improve the efficiency of a public building in one of the presentations of the V Conference on Construction 2030. Sustainable Development and Digitization in the Sector”, organized last November by the Chair of Environment and Sustainable Development of the ULL.

Another of the data provided by Vázquez about the work is that with it the energy consumed will be reduced by almost 55%, just over 25,000 kilowatt-hours, which, “according to current electricity prices, is equivalent to about 8,700 euros per year.” , quantified in November. And he added: “To this amount must be added the production of the photovoltaic installation, pending installation when the work is finished, and which would produce approximately 45,000 kilowatt-hours per year, thus leaving a building with a carbon footprint close to zero. In addition, 77.11 tons of carbon dioxide will be emitted annually.”
