Technicians from the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council have carried out a preliminary inspection this Friday morning to assess the damage caused by the fire that took place last night in the rainwater conduction of Avenida Los Majuelos, traffic in the direction of Muñeco de Nieve being restricted.
The report indicates that there is a first section that seems seriously damaged. In fact, in the final stretch the polyethylene pipe has disappeared due to the action of the fire. Likewise, the part between the mouth and the first manhole crosses the lanes of the avenue obliquely, so it is estimated that the pipeline has lost a large part of its section.
Thus, the staff of EMMASA and the City Council have proposed to immediately place welded metal plates in the area where the pipeline crosses, so that in the event of a collapse it could cause a traffic accident. This, in turn, would allow traffic to be maintained in at least one lane.
On the other hand, the report indicates that it is necessary to eliminate the parking band to move the lane marking cones, one meter from the lane separation line, so that traffic loads move away from the ditch where the pipe is housed between wells 1 and 3.
Precisely from the mouth to well 3 is where it seems that the condition is important, an end that, according to the report, it is necessary to check once the tube can be cleaned with pressurized water and manually, for which an operator with protective and breathing equipment must enter.
With regard to the operation of the pipeline in case of rain of a certain intensity, there is a risk that, since it is not waterproof due to the fact that part of its section affected by the fire is missing, it may cause the filling material to wash out of the trench where it is housed. driving and as a consequence significant potholes occur in the left lane and other important conditions.
For this reason, it is proposed to act as an emergency to replace the affected channel, which is estimated to be about 90 linear meters long, starting from the mouth.
