SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Turismo de Canarias reinforces the attraction of LGTBI tourists through an international campaign in which the good climate of the islands in the middle of winter is the great protagonist.
The objective of this initiative is to consolidate the archipelago as the leading destination for this tourist segment in months characterized by low temperatures, rain and snow in the rest of Europe.
The Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, Yaiza Castilla, highlighted in a note the importance of this tourist segment, which is “a priority for the destination due to its higher level of spending, which is up to four times above average”.
Castilla recalls that the islands compete throughout the year at an international level to attract these visitors, but that in the winter months only the Canary Islands can “offer eight different and unique islands, at an acceptable distance, with personal and climatic security and very far of the consequences of the energy crisis that the continent is experiencing”.
The counselor also highlights the relevance that LGTBI visitors have, for example, for Gran Canaria, where they represent more than 15% of the total number of tourists that the island receives, while in the archipelago as a whole they represent around 3%.
The area with the greatest influx of these visitors is Maspalomas, followed by Corralejo, in Fuerteventura.
With the ‘claim’ ‘Live the warmest winter in the best climate in the world’, the campaign has been launched in Spain, the United Kingdom and Germany digitally, with ‘stories’ on social networks, online ads and native advertising that it adapts to the environment in which it appears and allows the user to be impacted in a less intrusive way than with traditional advertising.
In addition, reports are published in the leading LGTBI magazines in the three markets, Männer in Germany, OutThere in the United Kingdom and Shangay in Spain. The action is co-financed by European funds through the REACT-EU Fund.
THE CLIMATE, THE MAIN VALUE
Based on a sample carried out in exclusively LGTBI accommodation establishments in the Canary Islands, it is observed that this tourist travels alone or with friends and mostly stays in apartments.
In the case of the Canary Islands, these visitors mainly value the climate, as well as the nightlife, the tolerant environment, the beaches, the good restaurants and the fact that they can enjoy the LGTBI atmosphere and accommodations focused exclusively on this segment.
Precisely, these establishments, practically all apartments, have occupancy and profitability rates that are significantly higher than the average, which explains the interest of Turismo de Canarias when it comes to betting on this segment that, in addition, also spends more at destination, especially in nightlife.
