Last Sunday, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Local Police station, situated on Las Teresitas beach, was discovered covered in smashed eggs on both its façade and windows. This act of vandalism, perpetrated by unknown individuals, took place at municipal premises. According to the CSIF union, this incident was a result of inadequate surveillance in the beach area during the night, primarily due to understaffing, especially in the summer when half of the officers are on leave.
Despite the eggs still staining the building, which had not been cleaned by City Hall workers as of Monday, the union has highlighted the dilapidated condition and lack of functionality of the post. They have formally requested Gladis de León, the area’s councillor, to address the structural issues for the benefit of both citizens and the safety of the officers. However, there has been no response from the councillor.
Despite these disgraceful acts against a public facility, the officers responsible for beach surveillance and security reported for duty, working from the police booth covered in egg remnants. They continued to assist citizens and tourists under these challenging circumstances.
