A new bailout of licenses cab is already underway in Santa Cruz. The Transport area, for which Councilor Dámaso Arteaga is responsible, has included in its budget for next year an item of 830,500 euros to remove at least another 150 licenses from the streets, which are the ones that the latest study carried out by the Capital City Council are left over in the municipality.
The financing line for this objective is extended until 2026 and will be completed with the contribution of the Cabildo de Tenerife, which has already announced that it is committed to contributing up to 45% of the total economic amount of the rescue.
The item in question is called the Strategic Plan for Competitiveness 2023-2026 and, in it, Arteaga points out, other concepts may be incorporated, such as those related to the modernization of the taxi, which, on the other hand, are already promoted in the year which comes with a substantial change in subsidies for adapted taxis. “Every year we see how we lose resources because taxis do not access the subsidy to adapt their vehicles. This year only one has been presented, and we are talking about a game of 60,000 euros that we can only dedicate to that ”, explains the mayor of Transport. Thus, “what we are going to do is open the grant so that it can be used to convert the vehicle into an adapted one or for modernization.”
The mayor gave an example of the purchase of a hybrid car. “If someone is thinking of changing the car, it may seem interesting to receive help through the City Council.”
The item for the maintenance of PMR taxis remains at 45,000 euros. As for this year, only 10,000 euros have been given to the only taxi that has chosen to become adapted.
“In this sense -said Arteaga-, we are increasing the number of adapted taxi vehicles that the city has, even if it is little by little, always depending on the interest of the license professionals”.
“In fact -concludes the councilor for Transport-, we currently have 13 taxi licenses adapted for PRM seats, to which is added the license that was granted this morning’s subsidy from the Governing Board , making a total of 14”.
Buses
The other great novelty presented in the Transport budget for next year is the million that has been added to buy buses. “It is a million that is added, regardless of the money that has already been contributed for the arrival of new buses,” explained Arteaga. The main objective, he pointed out, “is to introduce ourselves to the different lines of financing, such as that of the Next Generationto complete that million with money from other administrations and buy more vehicles.
As for the free buses, Arteaga confesses that they are still waiting for the operator, Titsa, to notify the City Council of the system that it is going to put into operation.
