During the current year, More than 260 unemployed people from Arona benefit from social plans aimed at promoting job through the development of projects with different characteristics. These programs are aimed at people who have more difficulties when it comes to finding a job, as well as those social groups that are in a situation of greater vulnerability.
The Cabo Blanco Civic Center hosted this week the last of the incorporations in this matter. The mayor, José Julián Mena, accompanied by the Councilor for Economic Promotion, Raquel García, welcomed 60 unemployed people who are part of the Sustainable Development of Rural Areas of Arona 2022 program. It has a budget of 222,628 euros, most of which are provided by the State Public Employment Service (SEPE).
The objective of this program is to carry out actions to promote agricultural employment designed and promoted from the beneficiary municipality. They must be related to the rural environment, the environment and the development of the forest heritage. Areas in which the approved projects will materialize.
Of the 60 people who will have an employment contract for the next three months, the majority (33) have been entrusted with tasks – to be carried out part-time – that correspond to the category of cleaning workers. Of the rest of the contracted, a dozen will be responsible for undertaking work related to different works, another ten workers will carry out their own gardening tasks and another five are in charge of carrying out tasks related to cleaning.
The more than 260 unemployed aroneros who benefit from municipal social plans aimed at incorporating people with more difficulties in finding a job or especially vulnerable groups into the labor market, have had and have that opportunity through the Extraordinary Program of Social Employment (PEES), as well as the so-called Training Plans in Alternation with Employment (PFAE) and Youth Guarantee.

In global terms, Arona is making progress in recovery. The latest employment data made public, corresponding to the month of October, reflect a decrease in unemployment in Arona estimated at 1.4% compared to September. The number of unemployed stands at 6,138 people, compared to 6,227 at the end of the ninth month of the year, as shown by the data made public by the Canary Islands Employment Observatory (Obecan).
The decrease in unemployment in Arona increases to 20.2% if the latest known figures are compared with the same month of the previous year.
