The Works Committee of the Fundación Canaria Hogar Santa Rita calls today a concentration to protest the delays in the payment of the salaries of the 430 workers in the largest Social and Health Center in Spain.
The protest will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the gates of the Foundation, at number 127 Carretera Las Dehesas, in Puerto de la Cruz.
As indicated in a statement by Comisions Obreras, the majority union (the committee is also made up of UGT and Intersindical Canaria), the reason for the aforementioned concentration is to protest the delays in the payment of the payroll of the staff of this Foundation and the “lack of of sensitivity” of the Management of the center with its professionals, “who live with the uncertainty of paying their payroll, without at any time addressing the Works Council to give justification, or information regarding the non-payment, or any other circumstance that affects the personnel of this Foundation”.
“The Directorate of this Foundation once again demonstrates its inability to comply with the basic commitments of any employer, hiding behind the non-payment by the IASS and without providing any solution”, they point out from the union force.
It is not the first time this year that the Foundation is late in payment. According to the Workers’ Commissions, the first delay was in April, which the staff received in the middle of the month, and in June the staff experienced the same situation. “Every time it is time for the IASS to regularize the payment, the same thing happens, despite the fact that the managing director maintains that the foundation is solvent,” says the head of the social and health sector of the Workers’ Commissions, Alexis Rodríguez, who hopes that the concentration of today join the largest number of workers.
Entry into the Board of Trustees
It was on Wednesday when the Cabildo de Tenerife asked the Fundación del Hogar Santa Rita to be included in the Board of Trustees. A request that aims to provide stability and guarantee the well-being of the users of the center, which has a significant number of concerted places that depend on the IASS.
The works council has also applied to enter without a voice, but with a vote. “It’s the only way to find out about the problems that exist,” defends Rodríguez.
