The International Clownbaret Festival (FIC) will celebrate its 16th edition between October 3 and 16 in different spaces on the island of Tenerife, but with ramifications on the islands of Gran Canaria, La Palma and La Gomera, which will make the Archipelago the world capital of clowning.
Throughout the different scheduled days, the public will be able to enjoy 132 performances and activities by 29 international, national and local companies. The meeting returns to the attendees the possibility of enjoying all these proposals without any type of restrictions and recovers the itinerant and street shows after the pandemic.
The artistic director of the FIC, Brian Rodríguez, expressed this week during the presentation of this new cultural event that this edition of the FIC “It is especially important because it resumes activity on the street after the pandemic.”
Thus, it will have numerous itinerant shows that “They will bring laughter to all the people who are in the street and not only to those who come to the festival,” said the Tenerife clown.
In this way, this new edition will bring together the most outstanding clowns on the current scene and one more year seeks to value this artistic discipline in society.
Participants
Among the participants in this 16th edition, the Italian Paolo Nani stands out with his show La carta, and who will also offer an acting technique workshop at Espacio La Granja, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Also arriving at the FIC is the mime Les Bubb, who after his participation in the first three films of the Harry Potter saga, will stage Make your brains go ‘pop’! Among the national participants, Pepa Plana stands out, a Spanish reference in the genre, National Circus Award winner, who returns to the festival with Voces que no ves.
There will also be artists from countries such as Belgium, Mexico, Japan, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Italy, France and Austria, and local companies such as Circanario or Sky Circus.
In addition to the different shows programmed for the theaters, which will require the purchase of tickets, and the itinerant and open-air proposals, which are free of charge, this new edition of the FIC also includes photographic exhibitions, comedy performances, mosquito shows and games musicals. In the case of exhibitions, highlights include, for example, Clowntrait, by Asier Bastida, which will take some portraits of the greatest clowns from around the world to the Casa Lercaro in La Laguna.
In addition, the FIC returns on this occasion with its training aspect, for which it will offer workshops and conferences that aim to promote creativity, develop acting techniques and awaken the most clownish side of the participants.
These are activities that will be open to the general public but will be adapted to specific groups, such as schoolchildren or people with disabilities. In this sense, the clown conferences given by Amaia Prieto and Jesús Jara stand out, and are aimed at promoting awareness and prevention of gender violence.
In this way, the traveling shows programmed in the first place in the center of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, La Laguna and Costa Adeje are one of the novelties of this new edition of the FIC and will be carried out by the Austrian Theater Irrwisch, with New York Dancing Queen and Grannies; and the French company Imperial Kikiristán, with Fantasias Kikiristanescas. With all these activities, FIC is once again committed to the decentralization of culture, with proposals that will reach Gran Canaria, La Palma and La Gomera for the first time.
Likewise, the Clownbaret International Festival tries to publicize the most outstanding clowns on the current scene at the international level. In this sense, it values this artistic discipline, which is why it has artists from countries such as Belgium, Mexico, the United Kingdom or Denmark.
During the days that the festival lasts, the different Canarian municipalities will host activities ranging from photographic exhibitions to comedy performances, passing through traveling shows, mosquito shows and musical games.
In addition, FIC has an educational nature and therefore offers workshops and conferences. These that aim to promote creativity, develop acting techniques and awaken the clown side of the participants. These are activities that will be open to the general public. But in addition, they will be adapted to specific groups such as schoolchildren or disabled people.
