The Cabildo de Tenerife has opted for the creation of an Insular Council of Good Practices in Foreign Action and Migrant Persons, a proposal that it will submit to the insular plenary session for final approval.
It is a consultative body with which the aim is to promote the participation of all cooperation agents in the actions carried out by the Insular Corporation to support the migrant population and the solidarity projects carried out abroad.
In a statement, the counselor of the Foreign Action area, Liskel Álvarez, has commented that the regulation that will govern the organization and operation of the Council, whose creation stems from an initiative presented by the Grupo Sí Podemos del Cabildo, will also be brought to the same plenary session.
“Our purpose – he said – is that this new body integrates all the political groups of the Island Corporation, as well as representatives of the group of migrants from Tenerife, experts in international cooperation and human rights, non-governmental organizations and volunteer associations. , among other entities and organisms”.
In addition, the University of La Laguna (ULL) and the Canarian Federation of Municipalities (Fecam) will also be represented.
The regulation document, which has been prepared in coordination with the area of Social Action, Citizen Participation and Diversity of the Cabildo, has been on public display from May 20 to June 6, without any allegations being presented.
For its part, the Council will have, among other functions, that of advising the Cabildo de Tenerife on matters of solidarity and international cooperation and development cooperation within Foreign Action, as well as proposing action plans in these fields, ensuring the quality , efficiency and transparency.
It will also serve as a platform to transmit initiatives that promote and strengthen the association of migrants on the island and the incorporation of volunteers into local networks.
