SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
August will end in the Canary Islands with heat and haze due to the winds coming from the African continent, which will carry dust in suspension and a mass of warm air that will raise the thermometers to 34 degrees or more on the slopes of the islands facing south and west. , has detailed the spokesman for the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), Rubén del Campo.
However, on Wednesday there could be some showers of stormy origin in the western islands and from Thursday the temperatures will begin to drop slightly and the haze will subside, while the trade winds will blow with intensity.
In the whole of Spain, August gives way to September between atmospheric instability that will result in showers and locally strong storms, especially in the north and east of the Peninsula, while temperatures will drop throughout the week, becoming cooler than expected. usual from Thursday, specifically, between 5 and 10 degrees below normal for the time of year in the western half of the peninsula.
Del Campo has specified that this Monday the highlight is the passage of a trough that will give rise to storms from morning in large areas of the center and north of the Peninsula.
These storms can reach strong intensity and leave more than 15 liters per square meter in just one hour and be accompanied by hail.
Also this Monday the atmosphere will be cooler as a result of the cloudiness and storms, but it will still exceed 35 degrees in the Guadalquivir Valley, in eastern Andalusia, in points in the interior of the Basque Country and in the northeast of Catalonia.
Tuesday in principle will be a calmer day, with some clouds and drizzles in the Bay of Biscay but with slightly cloudy skies in the rest of Spain, said Del Campo, who has warned that, however, clouds of evolution will grow in the mountains of the this peninsular without ruling out stormy showers that could be locally strong.
In addition, temperatures will drop in the Bay of Biscay, but will rise in the rest of the country. Thus, Tuesday will be a hot day in which 35 degrees will be exceeded in large areas of the northeast of the Peninsula, in the central area, the southern half, the Mediterranean area and in the Balearic Islands. In fact, cities like Córdoba, Zaragoza or Murcia will be around 38 or 39 degrees in the early afternoon.
On Wednesday, the arrival of another trough will cause instability with showers and storms in the eastern and southern thirds of the Peninsula, also in the Balearic Islands. As the AEMET spokesman has indicated, these may be locally strong in the north of Aragon, in Catalonia and in the mountains of the southeast.
Likewise, the skies will be cloudy in the north of Galicia and in the Bay of Biscay, where there will be light rains, while in the rest of the country there will be few clouds in general. Regarding temperatures, Del Campo has specified that on Wednesday they will drop in most of the Peninsula in a more pronounced way in points of the northern third.
However, they will rise on the peninsular Mediterranean coast and in the Balearic Islands, reaching 31 degrees in Barcelona, 34ºC in Castellón or 38ºC in Murcia.
During the first half of Thursday the weather will continue to be unstable, this day being a continuation of the weather from the previous day, with there will be stormy showers especially in the peninsular area and in the Balearic Islands.
That day the clouds will also continue in the Bay of Biscay although they will be less and in the afternoon the storms in Aragon and Catalonia may be repeated, Del Campo explained.
Clearer skies are expected in the rest of the Peninsula and temperatures will continue to drop, although in the southeast and the Balearic Islands it will continue to be hot with up to 34 degrees in Alicante and Mallorca, and up to 36 in Murcia. However, the early morning will be cool in parts of the interior, with minimum temperatures close to 10 degrees in León, Soria or Teruel.
Already on Friday there will be stormy showers in the east of the Peninsula and in the Balearic Islands and abundant cloudiness with rains in the Bay of Biscay and also in the Alto Ebro, with temperatures that will continue to drop on Friday and will leave a cool environment, with between 5 and 10 degrees per below normal for the time of year in the western half of the peninsula. However, it will continue to be hot on the shores of the Mediterranean and the Balearic Islands, the AEMET spokesman has warned.
The weekend will probably continue the situation of atmospheric instability in the east of the Peninsula and also in the Balearic Islands with stormy showers, while in the rest there will be clearer skies. In addition, temperatures will tend to recover.
