The Circle of Entrepreneurs and Professionals of the South of Tenerife (EST) has collected, among its associates, the first impressions after the start-up of the energy saving measures decreed by the central government. After a first contact with different businessmen and professionals of the organization, “the conclusions drawn are enlightening”, they acknowledge.
The president of the CEST, Roberto Ucelay, explains that there are several effects that the application of these measures is having among the business community of the region: “Businessmen want to lower our electricity bill and move towards a more sustainable model, but these measures can harm to the quality of our services and the comfort of the workers, fundamental to guarantee the necessary level for the provision of the same”.
The lack of specificity regarding the application of the norm and the lack of attention to the specificities of each type of business, which causes great inequalities regarding the consequences, are some of the reasons that have generated widespread discontent among the business community .
From the Circle they explain that the consequences are greatly affecting the comfort of the workers and that of the clients. “Comfort at work is one of the issues that most concerns us, since it is practically impossible to work 8 hours at more than 25ºC and we must take care of our staff,” explains Ucelay.
They also explain that “many customers have complained about the heat in the different establishments, affecting the user experience”.
In other cases, confusion is the predominant tonic, since some issues are not defined, such as, for example, which of the temperatures must be at a maximum of 27ºC, whether that of the premises or that of the outlet air point of the machine. In addition, other issues, such as the maintenance of COVID-19 measures, have not been considered either.
