SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo de La Palma will promote the procedures before the competent administrations to request that the Spanish Volcanological Center be located on the island, a request that will be made by the highest island institution after hearing the news that this scientific infrastructure will be located in the Canary Islands.
“The Islands are, without a doubt, the best place in Spain to host this center given our volcanological nature and that we are the only volcanically active region in the national territory and, precisely for that reason, and because of the recent eruption of the volcano last year I believe that La Palma should be the choice to host this scientific center”, defended the president of the Cabildo, Mariano Zapata.
Mariano Zapata has emphasized that this infrastructure, which will be dedicated to the volcanological study of the Islands, is key in scientific matters, allowing professionals and experts to be closer to continuously analyze what is happening in the subsoil of the Canary Islands.
“Scientific work has been key in the volcanic emergency that we have had to face in the last year and it is essential to continue taking steps to support that work, so having this center on the island would not only allow us to be more and better prepared for future eruptions but, on the other hand, it would also help us establish population in La Palma and attract talent, something that is essential for the recovery process in which we find ourselves immersed”, explained the president.
In addition, the president of La Palma takes into consideration the fact that any research center needs a field of work in which to carry out this type of study, “the island of La Palma being, without a doubt, the ideal place to host a facility whose objective is to delve into the bowels of the earth and discover some of its secrets”.
