The councilor responsible for the government areas of Tourism, Commerce and Sustainable Mobility of the City Council of La Laguna, María José Roca (Unidas se puede), informed the mayor and presented yesterday, in the municipal registry, her resignation from the position of councilor for reasons personal.

The request will be made known to the Plenary of the Municipal Corporation in the extraordinary session that takes place today, after which the vacancy declaration and request for the appointment of the substitute person will be made by the Central Electoral Board, in accordance with the provisions of article 9.4 of the Regulation of Organization, Operation and Legal Regime of Local Entities, approved by Royal Decree 2568/1986, of November 28, and article 182 of Organic Law 5/1985, of June 19, of the Regime General Election.

María José Roca, also a co-spokesperson for the municipal group of United You Can, stated that personal and professional reasons have forced her to make this difficult decision. Roca thanked the entire local Corporation, the municipal staff and the different associations and groups with which she has worked during these three years for their cooperation, dedication and support in a period that has been especially convulsive due to the effects associated with health restrictions.

“All the lagoon men and women have come together to face a health crisis unprecedented in recent history and we have given an example of solidarity, commitment and teamwork. I leave active politics with the honor of having represented my neighbors, both in the opposition and in government work, with a hand outstretched to all formations and with the pride of the achievements made so that La Laguna advances towards a municipality more sustainable and prepared to face the challenges of the future”, declared Roca.

The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, thanked María José Roca for her work during these three years in office and wished her the greatest success in this new stage. Meanwhile, the co-spokesperson for the municipal group of Unidas se puede and Councilor for Social Welfare, Rubens Ascanio, also thanked María José Roca “for her years of dedication and public service to La Laguna, a colleague always committed to the well-being of all neighbors and neighbors, a tireless worker and a conscientious woman and defender of the important socioeconomic and environmental causes that mark the present and future of our municipality”. “We wish her all the luck in her new journey. With the regret of the departure of a friend and committed politician, we hope with optimism that we can once again count on her commitment and skills to continue working as a team for and for La Laguna”, she added.

With Roca, the first Sustainable Mobility Department of the municipality was created, and in the field of Tourism, the first municipal tourism strategy and the two Master Plans for the Historic Center and the Northeast Region have been presented. In addition, in Commerce, the first edition of the Commerce Bonus was promoted, among numerous other initiatives in these three areas.
