The mayor of Los Realejos, Adolfo González (PP), announces that the municipality has once again joined in collaboration with the Cabildo de Tenerife «to all the actions that are in our power in order to contribute to the control and implementation of mechanisms to avoid the proliferation of the Guatemalan moth plague that has affected potatoes for years. As has been customary for several years now, collaboration is taking place in a new campaign to place containers specifically for the controlled disposal of potatoes directly affected by the bug.
The Councilor for Rural Development, Alexis Hernández, indicates that “the two containers located in the middle of the land intended for this purpose are located exactly in the Las Llanadas area, at their usual point, while the Icod el Alto nucleus is located east year on the La Corona highway, specifically on the road that gives access from El Lance Arriba to the La Corona viewpoint.
Alexis Hernández points out that “the fact of leaving the affected potatoes on the ground favors the proliferation of the pest not only in the garden itself, but also in other nearby cultivation spaces, whether or not they belong to the same farmer, so their disposal in the indicated containers, and complying with the stipulated measure that it be in closed bags of 25 kilos, will undoubtedly facilitate moving forward with the moth control measures.” Once the bichadas potatoes are deposited, the Cabildo de Tenerife will take charge of the transfer of the waste for its corresponding treatment in the waste plants.
