The Padre Anchieta Cultural Chair organizes from June 6 to 11 a conference around the saint and writer Saint José de Anchieta. This initiative coincides with the 425th anniversary of the death of the Jesuit missionary and will begin with the ‘Letter on the natural history of Brazil’: animals sighted by Anchieta. This is a conference that will be given on Monday by the researcher from the Faculty of Marine Sciences of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Enrique Lozano. It will take place in the auditorium of the Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country of Tenerife at 7:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, the critical edition of the volume Occasional Poems by José de Anchieta will be presented, with an introduction, rhythmic translation and notes by Dr. Miguel Rodríguez-Pantoja, professor of Latin Philology at the University of Córdoba. Speakers will be Dr. Maravillas Aguiar, director of the Institute of Canarian Studies (Iecan); Dr. Fremiot Hernández, who will present the book, and Dr. Rodríguez-Pantoja. The appointment will take place in this case in the Iecan and also at 7:00 p.m.
Issues around the poetry of Father Anchieta is the presentation that Miguel Rodríguez-Pantoja will offer on Wednesday, at 10:30 am, at the Faculty of Humanities (Philology Building) of the University of La Laguna (ULL). Thursday will be the liturgical festivity, while on Friday there will be a new conference: The flora in the ‘Letter on the nature of Brazil’ by Saint José de Anchieta: its nutritional and medicinal dimension, which will be given by Arturo Hardisson, professor of Toxicology at the ULL, in the Economic starting at 7:00 p.m.
The last proposal is scheduled for Saturday: Anchieta’s music in time concert, with the interpretation of his Contrafacta, by the Camerata Lacunensis, under the direction of José Herrero. It will be in the old convent of Santo Domingo at 19:00.
