The Arafo City Council will approve today, for the first time in 11 years, a municipal budget with an investment chapter, once its indebtedness has been overcome, which reached seven million euros in 2011 and which was forced into an adjustment plan for not complying with with the spending rule, after the large debt left by the one who was mayor for more than 30 years, Domingo Calzadilla.
Thus, the plenary session will approve today, with the favorable votes of the government group (AiA-CC and PSOE) -although consensus was sought with the two opposition groups, PP and IU-, municipal accounts for this year that total 8,575,992 euros, where they highlight, for the first time, an item for investment of 318,417 euros, “not very important, but that reflects the modest economic recovery of the municipality”, explains the mayor Juan Ramón Martín. Within these investments, the money allocated to the proportional part that the City Council must assume within the Municipal Cooperation plans with the Cabildo de Tenerife stands out, to carry out sanitation works in the upper part of the Carmen neighborhood, which will soon be put out to tender.
The priority works plan will also be completed, such as the roof of the municipal sports center and the reorganization of the area of the Andrés Orozco school, the construction of niches in the cemetery and completing the money that the Cabildo is going to allocate in the Casa de la Miel, to Finish the work before the end of the year. There will also be accessibility works at the kiosk in Plaza San Juan Degollado and the interior electrification of the soccer field.
“This municipal budget will also be completed with money from last year’s positive surplus to act on several rural roads, which we will continue to improve every year,” says the councilor.
Likewise, it highlights in the budget the amounts allocated to culture, “so fundamental in a municipality attached to music as Arafo”, as well as subsidies to sports entities and different associations of the municipality, also increasing citizen participation.
