The General Secretary of Penitentiary Institutions, Ángel Luis Ortiz, has appointed María Victoria Bernaola Galván (Málaga, 1978) as the new director of the Tenerife Prison.
With a degree in Psychology and a university expert in Criminology, Bernaola has been an official of the Superior Technical Corps of Penitentiary Institutions since 2004.
She worked as a psychologist at the Tenerife Penitentiary Center between 2004 and 2009 and at the ‘Mercedes Pinto’ Social Insertion Center from 2009 to 2011, the year in which she was appointed Deputy Director of Treatment at the CIS. Since 2019 she has been in charge of the Treatment Subdirectorate of the Tenerife Penitentiary Center.
María Victoria Bernaola takes over from María José Llamazares, the person in charge of the prison until now, with a degree in Public Management and Administration. Llamazares will be in charge of directing programs at the ‘Mercedes Pinto’ Social Insertion Center.
