Cepsa would begin next Monday the process for the dismantling of the Santa Cruz Refinery, the oldest in Spain and which was installed in the chicharrera capital in 1930.
The energy company has announced that the institutional act to start the uninstallation of the refining industry in the capital will include the presence and interventions of the third vice president and minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera; the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres; the mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez; the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, and the CEO of CepsaMaarten Wetselaar.
The dismantling of the refinery, a “milestone” for Santa Cruz
The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, pointed out that this announcement of the dismantling of the refinery is a “milestone” for the city that comes to comply with “what we signed in 2018” and with which the foundations were laid for what will be Holy Cross Green 2030in which the city will gain more than 500,000 square meters for the development of new sustainable spaces for the capital.
Bermúdez pointed out that an operation of this type is “probably unique in the world, the dismantling of a refinery, on whose land a new city will be built.”
