SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 18 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The president of the Popular Party of Tenerife, Emilio Navarro, has demanded a multi-year economic commitment for the Motor Circuit to guarantee the execution of the project, adding that motor fans on the Island “have a great weight economically and in sports “, so he understands that it is the Cabildo’s responsibility to “execute the project once and for all.”
Emilio Navarro and the spokesperson for the Popular Party group in the Cabildo de Tenerife, Zaida González, held a meeting this week with representatives of the Insular Automobile Federation with the aim of establishing, in coordination with the sector, the roadmap to follow so that the Island has this sports infrastructure as soon as possible, which the Popular Party proposed in the 90s.
The members of the Popular Party collected the demands of the representatives of the motoring sector on the Island, who demand specificity in the actions, since, as they indicated, “we have been talking about this infrastructure for 30 years and there is still no clear roadmap on its execution and start-up”.
The popular have indicated that they maintain their position of helping the island government on this issue, which is determined by the concern they have and share with the motor sector, the viability of the project as a whole, because “in view of the facts, we have reasonable doubts that all this is nothing more than a decoy with which to satisfy the motor sector (both federations and athletes), without there being a roadmap, which is what we need to make viable all the investment that a project of these characteristics requires,” they pointed out.
For this reason, the spokeswoman for the popular in the Cabildo announced that her formation has presented an amendment to the budget modification that the government takes to the plenary session on May 27, in line with the requests of the representatives of the sector, who go through a medium voltage project that guarantees, when the time comes, the normal functioning of the future Motor Circuit.
Zaida González explained that despite the fact that the president of the Cabildo has already publicly shown his rejection of this proposal, they are going to defend it in plenary because “it emanates from the sector itself.” He reiterated that the popular supporters reach out to the island government to carry out this project, “taking into account that it is difficult to reach majority agreements without consensus, since its partner, Sí Podemos Canarias, has publicly rejected any possibility of voting in favor of this infrastructure.
The popular group insists: “We are not content with the insular government saying that there are 5 million available to start part of the project, but rather we want to agree on the roadmap that will lead us to a real commitment to a project that, truly , is strategic for the island of Tenerife”.
“Although it is the president’s obligation to achieve majority support for his proposals, the Popular Party once again reaches out to him, since in this matter it becomes clear that this is a weak government, which does not have the necessary majority to move forward major projects in Tenerife”, added González.
The president of the PP of Tenerife, Emilio Navarro, also spoke about this project, claiming for this initiative “a multi-year financial commitment, which guarantees the execution of the project”, recalling that “the fans of motoring in Tenerife have a great weight in the economic and the sports, so we understand that it is the responsibility of this Cabildo to execute the project, once and for all”.
Emilio Navarro and Zaida González agree that despite “all the propaganda” with which the island government has surrounded this project, Pedro Martín “does not believe in the Motor Circuit”, and they cite as an example that the budgets of the Cabildo of this year “included a budget item for the Circuit of just one million euros, of which, to date, not a single penny has been executed”.
They added that another example of the “manifest inability” of the government group to comply with this project is that “the works of the northern access have begun and at present they have been absolutely paralyzed for more than two years.”
Given these circumstances, they ask the president of the Cabildo to “exercise the leadership that the Island of Tenerife needs to make this project a reality” between now and May 27, stressing that “although the fact that the president has chosen Podemos as government partner is mortgaging the future of Tenerife, for not having the majority to implement the large projects that the Island needs for its development”, the Popular Party reiterates that with dialogue and a will to consensus it can count on them, “without compensation”, since his main concern is “the general interest of Tenerife and the people of Tenerife”.
