Eurovision 2022 it’s just around the corner and Spanish Radio Television is already reporting on the preview of the song festival to be held on May 14 in Turin. And to warm up the engines from the public channel they are conducting interviews with the participants from the different countries who are asked about their relationship with Spain: their favorite places and, if they have been, their experiences in the country.
Among the different artists is Brooke Scullion, the representative of Ireland who stated in an interview that she loves “food and good beaches” from Spain, since in her country “there are beaches but they are cold, while yours are incredible”. So far, everything said by the contestant is irreproachable, but she then spoils it by saying that “In fact, I go to Tenerife a lot. I know it’s not Spain, but it’s an island outside of Spain“he has stated.
The words of the representative of Ireland, who has affirmed that Tenerife is outside of Spain, have not taken long to arouse controversy on social networks, where she has received both critical and more friendly comments from people who have taken it with a good dose of humour, where the joke has not been lacking.
“Did the artist mean that the Canary Islands are not in the Iberian Peninsula or does she really think that the Archipelago is not a part of Spain?”; “Literally the representative of Ireland in Eurovision asked for the independence of the Canary Islands”are some of the witty comments made on social networks.
