
The doctor José Rivera, the teacher Manuel Solana and Pilar García, wife of the latter, were executed and burned, according to oral testimony, in the La Tahona ravine, after the coup that on July 18, 1936 gave way to the War Spanish civil. They were 31, 70 and 65 years old, respectively. The first militated in the ranks of the Tenerife Republican Party, while the teacher was in the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party, a formation that he presided over in the municipality of Arico.
The events would have taken place in the La Tahona ravine, in the La Camella aronero nucleus, in a space in which, traditionally, an act of repair has been carried out that this year has been organized by the Historical Heritage area of the Arona Town Hallas part of the reparation actions within the framework of the Historical Memory Law, as explained by the person in charge of this Department, José Alberto Delgado.
This area is also working on a memorial project for the area, as well as the creation of a Center for Documentary Funds and Materials of Historical Memory.
The commemoration that took place today in the La Tahona ravine was attended by Doctor of History Carmen Rosa Pérez Barrios, who recalled the events that took place in this place. José Alberto Delgado, in addition to the manifesto, has underlined that “Arona has to advance in the fulfillment of reparations to the victims of the war, beyond other actions that have been developed, such as the change in the nomenclature of the streets . Although today’s is a traditional act rooted in the memory of many families, institutional support is essential. In fact -he added- it is part of an institutional agreement of the municipal plenary itself, adopted unanimously”.
