The surroundings of El Calvario, in Saint Ursulawill be the scene this weekend of one of the most participative acts of its religious programming on the occasion of the Holy Week: the representation of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. The appointment will begin at 9:00 p.m. this Saturday, April 9, 2022, in front of the Plaza de San Luis.
After two years without performing due to the pandemicthe initiative celebrates its twelfth edition, since in 2008 it was the first time it was carried out in Saint Ursula, although it has not been carried out continuously. In its beginnings, the representation was limited to the Via Crucis, but It currently covers a total of 13 episodes, from Christ’s entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper and the betrayal, through the council of elders, Peter’s denials or Pilate’s interrogation, to the arrest, crucifixion and resurrection, among others.
The staging will take place on a large stage located in Ancient Calvary Road, where several environments will be recreated according to the most outstanding scenes or that have more dialogues. In addition, there will be the participation of the Musician-Cultural Association Ernesto Beteta who will put the soundtrack to the show.
Over the years the staging has had the participation of hundreds of neighbors of all ages. Many of them will repeat this time and others will do it for the first time. Among the more than 100 participants this year are members of the parish, neighborhood and festival associations, as well as theater groups.
Both the fans and the most experienced performers are immersed these days in rehearsals, as well as in the preparation of the costumes, the preparation of the props and the various preparations so that the staging is a success, just as it was the year 2019, when more than a thousand neighbors witnessed it.
This initiative is promoted by the Santaurus Town Hall and has the collaboration of the Parish of Santa Ursula. To attend the performance of La Pasión it is necessary to have an invitation that can be picked up at the offices of the Culture area from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and at La Casona Cultural Space from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
