The users of long-distance lines titsa, those linking the north and south of the island increased by 127.3% in March, almost 27,000 more, compared to the same month last year. The public transport company of the Cabildo grew again in passengers in the third month of 2022 and for the first time since 2019, in the pre-pandemic, it exceeds four million passengers. The total balance so far this year accounts for 4,033,738, which represents an increase of 1.4% compared to the same period three years ago before the Covid-19 health crisis. Compared to last March, the figures rose by a remarkable 41.9%.
The mobility adviser council and president of Titsa, Enrique Arriaga, explains: “These data reflect the Cabildo’s commitment to promoting the use of public transport to achieve a more sustainable Island and improve traffic on the island’s roads.”
In his balance, Arriaga adds that “If the figures for March 2022 are compared with the same month last year, Titsa registers very considerable increases in all its routes.” This means that passengers increased by 41.9% compared to March 2021, going from 2,843,311 to the current 4,033,738 travellers.
The counselor highlights one fact above all: “The long-distance lines, which connect the north and south of the island, increased by 127.3% in this same period with almost 27,000 more passengers.” More specifically, routes to the south grew by 90.1% compared to the same month last year, with 464,767 boarding passengers, while long-distance routes to the south grew by up to 71%.
“These data support the commitment to public transport to achieve a more sustainable Island”
For his part, the insular director of Mobility, José Alberto León, maintains that Titsa has adapted the offer as the demand has grown, always with the aim of making the bus the first option for getting around the island. In this regard, he assures that “the bus and the tram are fundamental in the mobility of resident citizens and tourists.” For this reason, despite the increase in the price of fuel, “we are not going to increase the price of tickets,” he stresses.
All the routes of the Titsa company experienced increases in the number of customers or are close to 2019 figures. The long-distance lines with the south and with the north recorded increases of 25.1% and 12.1%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2019. In March of this year, a total of 297,519 passengers used the services to or from the south of the Island compared to 237,906 who did so before the pandemic. To or from the north, 304,403 people traveled last month compared to 271,427 in 2019.
Other routes that had a very positive evolution during this time interval were the intercity buses of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and those of the southern zone with 8.3% and 7.3% more than in 2019.
