Santa Cruz Carnival
The burning of the sardine on the night of San Juan, June 23, will open the Carnival in the street.

The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will become the first great show of the post-COVID era in the Canary Islands, once all restrictions have been lifted imposed by the regional government. The pandemic evolution has ended up proving the Santa Cruz City Council right in its decision to delay the celebration of the festival until June, which will allow there to be a Carnival of “contests, galas and street”. This was defended yesterday by the Councilor for Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, who admitted to being “tremendously satisfied” with the decision to delay it until June, “a decision that will cause a great economic impact on the city, and that makes it the first great spectacle in the post-COVID era”.

Cabello acknowledges that she has two months ahead in which the activity of the Autonomous Organization is going to be “frantic” with the organization of the May Festivities and the Santa Cruz Carnival. At the moment, the patron saint festivities are not joining this activity and “except for Anaga and some specific ones from the Southwest, in this time of pandemic, the movement of the festival commissions has been deactivated, although we trust that they will recover in the coming months. ”.

Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife

As for the Santa Cruz Carnival, precisely throughout this week, the mayor pointed out, “there have been a multitude of meetings between the organization and the different groups and collectives in order to carry out a detailed review of the details of each one of the contest variables. Everyone was optimistic with the news that it has finally been confirmed that they will be able to return to rehearsals with 100% capacity in the rehearsal rooms, although it still has to be with a mask.

In the last week of June, the 3 phases of the children’s murgas contest will take place, from Monday 20 to Wednesday 22 June, at 8:00 p.m.

On Thursday, June 23, it will be when, starting at 9:00 p.m., the Carnival begins in the street with the burning of the sardine on the night of San Juan.
