A total of 21 educational centers have vaccinated against covid-19 to 407 children in the Canary Islands, as detailed this Friday by the Minister of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuela de Armas.
The counselor has explained in a parliamentary committee the vaccination protocol in schools, at the request of the Mixed group, and has advanced that 14 centers will be added to vaccination.
Manuela de Armas has indicated that the vaccination in educational centerswhich has only been carried out in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, is carried out in the “vacuguagua”, unless the facilities of the center allow it to be carried out inside.
He specified that a new phase open to all public, concerted and private centers is now going to begin, to which 14 centers have signed up, although the Ministry is still waiting to receive the data from all the schools that have voluntarily registered.
The counselor has defended this measure because, as she has indicated, many parents think that this way it is easier to vaccinate their children, and she has commented that there are doctors, nurses and assistants present at the vaccination, “the same personnel as in any health center “, he added.
In addition, he recalled that vaccination is a family decision and recalled that “All life has been vaccinated in the centers”before the pandemic.
During his appearance, he also referred to the false bomb warning that was made in a center in Tenerife to prevent children from being vaccinated, “a complicated moment that cannot be repeated,” he denounced.
Nevertheless, the Ministry always notifies the local council and police in case “some person a little heartless” could attack children or teachers.
The deputy of the Mixed group Vidina Espino has lamented that it is “a very low number” regarding what was intended, so he has asked the counselor to reconsider vaccinating in schools.
He has indicated that the Anpe union has not agreed because it has been done without consensus with the teachers, and he has regretted that in some centers there have been problems and threats to the teachers.
He has also pointed out that, although the vaccines are safe, there could be some reaction, so he has said that it would be better for children to be vaccinated in a health center or hospital.
