SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 24 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The bishop of the Nivariense Diocese, Bernardo Álvarez, announced this Thursday that there will be no extraordinary celebration of the ‘Descent of the Virgin of the Kings’ in El Hierro in 2022 as requested by the island’s public institutions.
In a statement, it points out that consultations have been carried out and the different possibilities have been explored with the island and local authorities, priests and the Virgen de los Reyes Foundation, which, together with the current reality of the pandemic, “sadly” discourages the celebration of the ‘Descent’.
Thus, the four-year appointment with the ‘Beloved Mother’ will be held in July 2025.
“To the Virgin Mary and her son Jesus Christ we entrust the island of El Hierro and the devotees of the insular patron saint wherever they are, in the hope that the health situation continues to improve and that we can meet again with ‘Ella’ on the date indicated “, concludes the bishop.
