The environmental evaluation of the ‘Ciudad de la Justicia’ project in Santa Cruz de Tenerife begins

The Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands has initiated the procedure of strategic environmental evaluation of the project of the future City of Justice of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which will cover a concentrated judicial use territorially in Cabo Llanos, but differentially distributed according to the different judicial bodies and complementary uses to house.

The counselor, José Antonio Valbuena, explained in a note that his department has already initiated the request for the mandatory reports from the rest of the Government areas, as well as the rest of the administrations involved.

He also stressed that “this procedure includes a period of public exposure to promote the participation of citizens in this project that is so important for the future of the municipality and the island, in general.”

This initiative, he pointed out, together with the recovery of the Refinery space, “will represent a qualitative leap by improving the sustainability and habitability of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which, thanks to the collaboration between administrations, will have a more rational use of its spaces that will benefit both the administration of justice itself and the users and that will result in a gain in citizen use of more than 50,000 square meters and an enviable seafront”.

After the environmental evaluation of the proposal and the publication of the strategic environmental impact report, the proposal to suspend the management instrument of the General Plan for Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the area of Cabo Llanos will arrive, which will be accompanied by the Temporary Substantive Regulations.

The project will make it possible to locate most of the Palace of Justice in two almost adjoining buildings, separated by a square, with the necessary building space and close enough to allow their connection.

Thus, the aim is to reduce the planned height without implying a reduction in its use, expanding the green areas in the area of Cabo Llanos.
