January 2022 It has become the blackest month of the pandemic. In just 15 days, The Archipelago has added 123 deaths associated with the coronavirus, a fact that exceeds the 112 that marked the monthly maximum in the region, which was reached in January of last year. And it is that the Canary Islands added this Saturday 15 deaths to its statistics –14 in Tenerife and one in Lanzarote–, which also translates into a new daily record. These deaths are pending validation by the General Directorate of Public Health.
According to the provisional data handled by the Health Department of the regional Executive, the Islands have registered today 6,327 new infections, of which 2,866 have been verified in Tenerife; 2,304 in Gran Canaria; 488 in Lancelot; 309 in Fuerteventura; 269 in La Palma; 42 in La Gomera; and 48 in El Hierro.
With all this, the total number of active clinical pictures amounts to 86,921 –4,747 more than the previous day–. Tenerife remains in the lead and has 42,461 affected by Covid-19, a calculation that represents 48.8% of the total. It is followed by Gran Canaria, with 31,112; Lanzarote, with 6,096; Fuerteventura, with 4,672; La Palma, with 2,134; La Gomera, with 231; and El Hierro, with 214.
The sixth wave of the pathogen continues to affect hospitals as well. In fact, in the Covid plants there are already 529 patients admitted –five more than in the previous 24 hours–, while in the critical areas there are 75 patients fighting against the microorganism -four more-.
Since the last balance, 1,565 epidemiological discharges were issued. With them, the total recovered in the Archipelago already reaches 131,099. The number shows, therefore, that 59.7% of the positive cases diagnosed, which are 219,283, have managed to overcome the SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Until Friday, the professionals had carried out 2,953,305 diagnostic tests on the Islands, of which 18,447 were carried out during that day –7,039 more than on Thursday–.
The Ministry reminds that this weekend People over 40 years of age who were vaccinated with Janssen or AstraZeneca compounds can access the booster dose without needing to make an appointment. In Gran Canaria, the Infecar and Expomeloneras mass vaccination points are operational, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., while in Tenerife the Fairground and Magma are active, between 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Taking into account the data corresponding to the close of Thursday, In the Canary Islands, 1,699,148 people have already completed the inoculation schedule, 81% of the target population of the Islands. Since the campaign began, professionals from the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) have administered 3,955,948 injections of the serums, although 591,787 are booster doses.
With regard to the pediatric population between 5 and 11 years old, it must be said that there are already 56,586 boys and girls who have received a puncture from Pfizer’s prophylaxis, which represents 41.3% of the group.
