The area of highways Tenerife Council carries out emergency works to improve safety in the island road that gives access to Punta de Teno (TF-445), in the municipality of Buenavista del Norte. The works, budgeted at 475,000 euros, focus on the replacement of various elements of the landslide retention mesh system, installed on the left side of the road, as they are in poor condition.
The councilor of highways, Enrique Arriaga (Cs), details that the inspections carried out “showed the need for immediate action to replace several elements of the security mesh, due to its deterioration as a result of the weather conditions in the area”, very close to the sea. Arriaga acknowledges that these damages could cause “serious landslides and generate a safety issue for road users».
As reported the road area, during the execution of the works, their environmental impact will also be monitored, “with the aim of minimizing the negative effects of the action on the localized populations of species included in the regional or state protection catalogues”. The Island Director of Highways, Thomas Felix Garcia, adds that “the works are currently carried out during daytime hours” and that “the total closure of the road is essential while the work lasts”, due to the risk of landslides. The works have an expected duration of three months.
