The director of the Rodin Paris Museum, Amelie Semelier, after visiting the Viera and Clavijo, praises the structure of what will be the future Rodin Tenerife Museum, especially the building’s chapel. “The Rodin Museum in Paris also has a 19th century chapel, so it has been very easy for me to project Rodin’s sculptures in that room,” he explained at the end of the visit.

Semelier assured that the one in Santa Cruz “will be a unique museum” not a copy of the one in Paris because thanks to the capital’s relationship with sculpture “it will contribute its own vision of Rodin’s work.”

The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, pointed out that the intention of the City Council is to be able to put out to tender the rehabilitation work this year, to start it at the end of 2022, once the architect Fernando Menis delivers the finished project to the City Council. “Menis is adjusting the last details with the municipal technicians and we hope that we can approve it in the first quarter,” said Bermúdez.

Public gardens

The mayor guaranteed that the gardens of the Viera will continue to be public in their entirety, “as they are now.” He also advanced, in terms of uses, that 50% of the building will go to the Rodin Museum and the other 50% to an Interpretation Center for the Exhibition of Sculptures on the Street.
