The Volunteer Firefighters of Santiago del Teide doubled the number of services they attended last year compared to the year 2020. This is reflected in the annual report released by this group, which shows that they were activated by the 1- 1-2 to make 133 departures in 2021, more than double those registered in the previous one.
The balance report shows that each firefighter used a measure of 6.80 hours of work per service performed. Altogether, they added 178.06 hours to complete the care of emergencies in which they obtained the participation of volunteers from Santiago del Teide.
Of these 133 exits and interventions, the displacement of personnel, means and food to La Palma due to the eruption of the volcano stands out, an emergency in which this park was actively collaborating with the Tenerife Firefighters Consortium, apart from carrying out its own collection of material and food that were transferred to the assistance and collection centers.
Another service to highlight was the rescue of people in the Tancón, an incident that resulted in two deaths, as well as the one carried out on other roads parallel to the Barranco de Masca while it was closed. In Barranco Seco and Sendero del Cliff they completed 25 interventions. After the opening of the Barranco de Masca, 14 rescues of varying difficulty have already been reached.
Another relevant intervention took place in the Barranco de Los Cochinos. Troops spent the night tracking and searching for a missing, located person. As an unusual service, the work to prevent two beached whales from reaching land is reflected in the 2021 memory, as well as the taking of samples by biologists. The volunteer firefighters completed the work under the supervision and direction of the Cabildo Environment staff.
The remaining services provided by this group of the municipality refer to fires in homes, the burning of stubble, garbage, containers, vehicles, and as checkpoints in sports events, in addition to collaboration in municipal events.
