SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 23 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The senator for the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands and national secretary general of the Canary Islands-PNC Coalition, Fernando Clavijo, attacked this Wednesday against the decision to call off the Canary Islands-State bilateral commission just 24 hours after its celebration on the island of La Palma.
Clavijo claimed to see “contempt” for the State in the summons and accused it of removing the Canary Islands from its territorial agenda.
The leader of the Canarian nationalists also pointed to “the inability of the PSOE of the Canary Islands to close agreements with Madrid”, a situation that is due “to the laziness of the State or the servility of the Government of the Canary Islands”.
He also stated that “The Canary Islands do not deserve a Government that, in the most difficult moments of its history, is leaving it at the height of bitumen as the Government of the Canary Islands is leaving it or is despising it as the Government of Spain does.”
Likewise, he said that the Canary Islands are full of issues that have to be dealt with urgently by the State Administration and insisted after the presentation on the study of insularity that took place this Wednesday in the Senate that “The Canary Islands are full of issues that have to be treated urgently by the State Administration”.
“UNTOLERABLE” BLASTING OF THE ISLANDS
In that sense, he pointed out to the media that it is “intolerable” that the Canary Islands be “thrashed in this way and that the Government and the Canarian PSOE allow it.”
In this way, he pointed out that the cancellation of the highest-level Canary Islands-State meeting scheduled for this Thursday is not an attack on the regional government but on the archipelago, on the social and economic agents, in short, on the whole of Canarian society that ” I had hope in that appointment to unblock important issues”.
Thus, he has given as an example “the development of the Statute of Autonomy, among them, the transfer of Coastal powers, but also, the response to the volcanic crisis of La Palma, as well as, to the migratory one, the distribution of the three thousand unaccompanied minors who remain sheltered on the islands, the road debt, the extension for another year of the Investment Reserve for the Canary Islands or the extension of the ERTE beyond the period of one month set by the State, taking into account that the economic engine of the islands continues without recovering”.
Clavijo appealed to the Canarian president to “be belligerent in defending the Canarian agenda and stand up to Madrid, as well as, put the batteries to a languid Government of the Canary Islands, which does not make an effort and does not stand up for the Canary Islands “.
Specifically, the nationalist senator pointed out that it is “unacceptable” that the State Government “continues to refuse to comply with the Statute of Autonomy and that the Government of the Canary Islands and the Canarian PSOE are complicit with their silence in one more outrage against the rights of Canarians and canaries.
“MADRID PUNISHES THE CANARY ISLANDS AND THE CANARY ISLANDS ALLOWS IT”
The leader of the Canarian nationalists reproached that while “Madrid punishes the Canary Islands and the Canary Islands consent to it”, the State “closes agreements and always prioritizes those communities that guarantee their governability”.
Specifically, he recalled that on the same day that the Minister for Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, made it abundantly clear that she would not cede, for the time being, the coastal powers in the Canary Islands, the Minister for Territorial Policy, Isabel Rodríguez, closed an agreement in Barcelona that she herself described as “historic for Catalonia”, which also contemplated an agreement for the transfer of scholarships and study aid, modules of the administration of Justice and the extension of rights with the agreement to promote a working group for the management of Income Minimum Vital, while “the door to everything is closed to the Canary Islands”.
Fernando Clavijo pointed out that in six months two meetings of the Generalitat-State Bilateral Commission have been convened while “the Canary Islands have been knocking on the doors of the ministries for a year without anyone answering and now, 24 hours after this important meeting, the of the agenda without the Canarian president doing anything to avoid it, thus allowing the State to continue mistreating and insistently violating the rights of Canarian men and women”.
