The Municipal Group of the Canarian Coalition-PNC in the Puerto de la Cruz Town Hall has demanded that the local government of PSOE and ACP comply with the plenary agreements on the dilapidated and unhealthy Iders building. The nationalists request that the agreements that became an institutional motion to resolve the humanitarian problem of the property become a reality, “a situation that continues to worsen with fires, conflicts with residents of the area and the growing fear of the state of deterioration of the building ”, warns the former mayor Sandra Rodriguez.
The also local secretary general of the CC of Puerto de la Cruz and municipal spokesperson, Sandra Rodriguez, explains that “in December 2019 we presented the first action proposal with homeless people in the municipality. A year later, a proposal as a roadmap to solve the humanitarian problem posed by the situation of these people and, especially, of those who live in the Iders building”.
“After attacking our nationalist group and against me as spokesperson”, Rodríguez continues, “two months later, in February of this year, the municipal government of PSOE and ACP he was forced, by the pressure exerted by the Canary Islands Coalition and the residents of the area, to convert this proposal into an institutional motion and approve it unanimously in plenary session ”. However, the CC spokesperson denounces that “we are ending the month of December 2021 and not only have none of the agreements contained in the approved proposal been fulfilled, but also that the situation is increasingly serious, having occurred recently a large fire that affected the entire ground floor of the building, which not only constitutes a serious danger to security in the area, but also has added another drama to the situation of those who live in the building and who have lost what little they had”.
“Coexistence problems have already resulted in some confrontation between squatters and neighbors”
CC recalls that to all this “we must add the growing concern of the neighboring communities of the area for the increasingly dilapidated situation of the property and because of the coexistence problems that exist and that have already resulted in a confrontation between squatters and neighbors ”, laments the nationalist mayor.
“From Canary Coalition We can only demand from Municipal government of PSOE and ACP that it complies with the plenary agreements, that it act immediately taking the steps included in the proposal that they made their own and approved as an institutional motion to really serve the people who live there, to give security to the area and tranquility to the neighbors and, on everything, to ensure the dignity of those who have no other roof to shelter than a dilapidated building whose urban solution will come sooner or later, but which is not the problem that we have raised and on which we demand that action be taken immediately ”, Rodríguez sentence.
