Arturo González is not satisfied with the state of the works carried out on the Autopista del Sur as it passes through your municipality within the framework of the third rail project between San Isidro and Playa de The Americas. Last Friday, the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, and the general director of Road Infrastructure, José Luis Delgado, visited the works to replace the Las Chafiras bridge with an elevated roundabout and announced their start. «It is that, an announcement, and we are already tired of announcements. That work had to be finishing or finished, “says the mayor of San Miguel de Abona.
The San Miguel councilor warns of the “tremendous chaos” that will occur in one of the areas of the island affected by the collapse of traffic. “Since they start demolishing the Las Chafiras bridge, things will get significantly worse,” he emphasizes. To avoid or mitigate the situation predicted by the mayor, Arturo González assures that “the Cabildo had to have built the road that connects the area with Costa San Miguel.” A road that has a project and that “is fundamental as an alternative to traffic when that chaos begins.” It would link the Los Abrigos highway from the coastal margin of Las Chafiras to the Oroteanda connection, further south.
However, after his visit to the area, Peter Martin said The new access and the roundabout in the lower part of this enclave, parallel to the motorway, are under construction. “We are not at all satisfied with the pace at which this work is developing. For missing, it is missing until the north side of the new Oroteanda link is finished, ”recalls the mayor. In fact, he is clear that, “taking into account the bureaucracy that the Administration suffers, the current regulations and the deadlines established in works of this caliber, it will not be ready for the electoral photo.”
Ore and the burying of the connection with Los Cristianos.
The mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, recognizes the importance of the third lane of the Autopista del Sur from Granadilla to Adeje and states that “it is a historic claim to improve mobility problems in the South region, which directly affect Arona, both at the height of Guaza and Los Cristianos ». Aware that any work that is started within the framework of this project is progress, Mena emphasizes that “however, we consider it essential to address the burial of the entrance and exit of this town (Los Cristianos), because it is an element which also results in the queues that are generated in the TF-1. Therefore, it would be a comprehensive action that would provide a complete solution to the current situation », he concludes.
The construction of the elevated roundabout that will replace the current bridge of the Autopista del Sur (TF-1) at the Las Chafiras junction (San Miguel de Abona) begins with the drilling that is required in the axis of the road to place the pillars from the big roundabout. It is the beginning of another phase of the project for the third lane of the TF-1 between the towns of San Isidro (Granadilla de Abona) and Playa de Las Américas (Adeje).
Characteristics of the future connection of Las Chafiras.
The new Las Chafiras junction will have the type of roundabout raised above the trunk of the TF-1, which it crosses by means of two circular overpasses. That is to say, similar to the one existing in the San Isidro junction. This roundabout will be connected to the TF-65 (the road that runs between the urban area of San Miguel de Abona and Los Abrigos, in Granadilla de Abona), as well as the two branches to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the two collector-distributor routes in the South direction. Traffic to the capital will be carried out through the existing branches, which will be slightly modified to accommodate the new roundabout. On the other hand, the movements towards Playa de Las Américas will be channeled through the two new distribution collector roads, as contemplated in the project.
The works of the third rail of the TF-1 San Isidro-Las Américas have a 30-month execution period by the UTE Ferrovial Agroman SA-Ten Asfaltos-Excavaciones Óscar del Castillo, with a budget of 21,797,785 euros. On January 31, 2019, the shovels began work on the new Oroteanda link, a link that is already partially in use.
