SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The area affected by fire in the campaign against forest fires in Tenerife amounted to 3,063.04 hectares, in 19 interventions by Brifor, all of them coordinated by the Cecopin room, as reported by the Natural Environment and Security Management area of the Cabildo .

Of the total of Brifor’s interventions, 14 were considered outbreaks and five fires. The fires that affect areas smaller than one hectare are considered attempts, while those that exceed that minimum obtain the categorization of fires.

Outside the forestry field, the Cabildo media have intervened in 33 outbreaks and three fires, the one in Bajamar that affected a palm grove, Bebedero Alto in La Orotava and a third in Icod el Alto, Los Realejos, where there had been no incidents since 2014.

The Arico fire, declared in mid-May and extinguished at the end of October, was the largest of those produced on the island and burned 3,052 hectares, 500 of them covered with non-wooded vegetation, that is to say, peak scrub composed of broom, rosalillo de cumbre and other bushes.

Another notable fire was the one declared inside the Teide National Park, in September, which destroyed 3.82 hectares of broom, caused by the regime of winds and very low relative humidity.

During this summer, 293 workers were activated in the firefighting campaign, of which 162 are the Cabildo’s own personnel, which will have as its own means two ECURIEL AS350 B3 helicopters based at the Tenerife South Airport, three mother pumpers with a capacity for 9,000 liters, 19 forest pumpers with a capacity of 3,500 to 5,000 liters, 29 light pick-up pumpers of 500 liters and one Forward Command Post vehicle
